SCHOOL YEAR 2024-2025 TOPIC: Mission for a Green Planet

Date Submitted: 09/09/2024

After centuries of continuous industrial development, humans are facing serious consequences from their own activities. Industrial waste, destruction of primary forests, and uncontrolled exploitation and use of fossil energy have led to an increase in global temperatures, melting of ice caps at the poles, and a continuous rise in sea levels. high... Serious problems related to climate change continue to occur, threatening the Earth's natural balance. The severity of this situation has made climate change one of the greatest challenges facing humanity.

With the goal of raising awareness of climate change for students throughout the System, Sakura - Olympia selected "Mission for a Green Planet" as the theme for the 2024-2025 school year. This is not only an academic topic but also a commitment of the school to join hands in protecting the environment and building a sustainable future.

"Mission for a Green Planet" will be a guideline for educational activities throughout the school year. Students will participate in projects on environmental protection, saving resources and are encouraged to create solutions that contribute to minimizing the impact of climate change. Sakura - Olympia believes that through education and practice, each student will become "green warriors" who contribute positively to the planet.

"You can start changing the world for the better every day, no matter how small the action is" - Nelson Mandela.

Every small action of SOers on the journey to implement the "Blue Planet Mission" is an important step to create the path to a sustainable future. A green future is in your hands!

SOME GLOBAL ISSUES POSE CHALLENGES TO CURRENT GLOBAL CITIZENS

Population explosion

The world's population is growing at a rate unprecedented in history. From 5 million people in 8000 BC, the population increased to 1 billion in 1800 and continued to grow rapidly, reaching 7 billion in 2011. Current population growth occurs mainly in less developed countries , where birth rates remain high. Factors such as improved medical conditions and reduced mortality contributed to this population boom. The impact of population growth on development is huge, putting pressure on natural resources and public services.

The gap between rich and poor is getting wider

The gap between rich and poor is growing globally. While some rich countries are getting richer, many poor countries still face poverty and deprivation. From 1820 to 2009, the income gap between the richest and poorest countries increased from 3:1 to 76:1. Development support and foreign aid policies have been implemented to minimize this situation. However, the challenge remains enormous as the benefits of globalization are not distributed evenly and many regions are still left behind.

Unreasonable food distribution and food crisis

The global food crisis caused by economic recession and climate change has led to serious food shortages in many countries. Although global food production is enough to feed everyone, more than 800 million people are malnourished. The problem lies not only in production but also in distribution and wasteful consumption. Developed countries consume food with high waste rates, while developing countries still face hunger.

Fossil fuel crisis

The energy crisis and climate change are threatening sustainable development. Dependence on non-renewable energy sources such as oil and coal has led to huge CO2 emissions. Renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and geothermal energy are being encouraged to develop to minimize environmental impact. However, this transition requires massive investment and global policy changes.

Climate change situation

Climate change is a major threat to humanity, caused by industrial activities and greenhouse gas emissions. Rising global temperatures have led to melting glaciers, rising sea levels and extreme weather events. Countries need to take measures to reduce emissions and adapt to environmental changes to avoid serious consequences in the future.

Environmental pollution and loss of biodiversity

The environment is under great pressure from human activities, including resource exploitation, pollution and biodiversity loss. Unsustainable economic development has led to land degradation, air and water pollution, and climate change. Solutions such as conservation, recycling and sustainable use of natural resources are being encouraged to protect the planet for future generations.

The breakneck speed of technology development

Technology plays an important role in solving global problems, from health, education to the environment. However, technological developments also pose new challenges such as cybersecurity, privacy and digital divide. The adoption of new technology needs to be carefully managed to ensure that it benefits everyone and does not create new social problems.

Sustainable development plans

The future of humanity depends on the decisions and actions we take today. Future scenarios can range from bright prospects with sustainable development and green technology, to dire consequences if we continue to exploit natural resources in an unsustainable way. To better understand the choices and their consequences, we need to consider some alternative scenarios for the future.
