Date Submitted: 02/08/2024
In Japan, music appreciation plays a crucial role in early childhood education. It helps children develop language skills, communication abilities, and creative thinking. Music serves not only as a medium for children to access culture and art but also as a tool to develop emotional intelligence, imagination, and concentration. This importance is reflected in the curriculum at Sakura Kindergarten under the Sakura - Olympia Educational System, where music appreciation activities are emphasized. These activities not only create a fun and creative learning environment for children but also strengthen the connection between students, parents, and the school. Through these activities, parents can gain a deeper understanding of their children's learning process, enabling better support and comprehensive development.
On August 2, 2024, Sakura Kindergarten organized a music appreciation experience with Japanese music expert Ms. Sugawara Hiroko. With over 40 years of teaching experience, Ms. Sugawara has taught music appreciation to over 7,000 students, ranging from children to adults. She brought unique and enriching musical experiences to Sakura kindergarten students and parents.
During the session, children moved to the rhythm of the piano music played by Ms. Sugawara, following different musical commands. These commands ranged from simple actions like walking, running, spinning, sitting, and jumping to more complex ones like mimicking the movements of a robot or a penguin. The session also included a bonding activity between parents and children with fireworks made from plastic balls and a colorful parachute game. Singing and naming objects to the notes of the music helped children effectively appreciate pitch and rhythm.
Ms. Sugawara Hiroko, with her extensive experience, provided engaging activities that captivated the young students. Children participated eagerly, enjoying activities like rhythm games and using musical cues to understand different movements. These activities helped them develop quick reflexes, music appreciation, and body language skills, all while fostering a love for music.
The children were visibly excited and enthusiastic during the session led by Ms. Sugawara. They developed reflexes, music appreciation, and body language skills, enhancing their enjoyment of music.
As Ms. Sugawara Hiroko stated, "Through this visit to Vietnam, I hope to use my experience to bring beautiful experiences to the children and help them nurture their souls and love for music."
The music appreciation event with Ms. Sugawara Hiroko provided joy and excitement to the students and was an opportunity for the school and parents to work together in creating a rich and creative learning environment. These experiences will serve as a crucial foundation for the children's comprehensive development in the future.
