The Clash of Mind: English Mathematics Competition for Olympia Primary Students

To inspire students' love for math, nurture their mathematical skills, and develop their language abilities in mathematics, Olympia Primary, Secondary, and High School is organizing the English Mathematics Competition themed “The Clash of Mind” for primary students. This competition not only helps students build independence, communication, and teamwork skills but also boosts their confidence in performing under pressure. Moreover, the competition offers teachers valuable insights into students’ mathematical abilities, fostering a deeper passion for math and encouraging the application of positive teaching methods.
The competition focuses on math questions in both multiple-choice and open-ended formats, covering topics from the Cambridge Math curriculum. Priority is given to questions with real-life applications, challenging mathematical thinking, and language proficiency.
1. GENERAL INFORMATION
1.1. Time and Location
Qualifying Round: November 14–19, 2024, in primary school classrooms.
Final Knockout Round: November 29, 2024, from 2:45 PM to 4:05 PM, at PE Room, Campus 1 (63 Lê Văn Long, Hải Châu, Đà Nẵng).
Results Announcement and Award Ceremony: November 29, 2024, during the Final Round.
1.2. Participants
All primary school students will participate in the preliminary round. The top 56 students will compete in the Final Round.
All primary students are encouraged to cheer on their peers during the finals and participate in interactive activities during the breaks.
2. COMPETITION FORMAT
2.1. Qualifying Round
Students will take an assessment that tests their problem-solving and reading comprehension skills in English. Eight outstanding representatives from each class will be selected. Teachers will then randomly assign students into eight teams, each with seven members from all grade levels. Teams will choose a name and strategize for the competition.
2.2. Final Knockout Round
Round 1: 8 Teams
Teams will answer questions on Kahoot, with students from each grade level taking turns. Each turn will feature 5–10 questions until all questions are answered or time runs out.
Points are awarded based on correct answers and speed.
The four teams with the highest scores will advance to Round 2.
Round 2: 4 Teams
All teams will receive the same set of questions. Team members will discuss and write answers on an answer sheet within the given time.
After the time is up, the judges will collect and score the sheets. The two teams with the highest scores will proceed to Round 3.
Round 3: 2 Teams
Judges will pose questions tailored to each grade level. Each team will nominate representatives for each grade level to compete.
Students will press a buzzer to answer questions. Correct answers earn points, while incorrect answers result in a deduction of half the question’s points.
After all students from each grade have competed, the judges will tally the scores and announce the winning team.
3. AWARDS
- 1st Place Team: Gold medals, souvenirs, and certificates for team members.
- 2nd Place Team: Silver medals and certificates for team members.
- 3rd Place Teams (2): Bronze medals and certificates for team members.
- Participants in the Finals: Certificates of participation for students who do not advance past Round 1.
